Colts Begin Season by Sweeping Raiders

The Westchase Colts got off to a great start to 2010 by taking all four games from the Raiders this past Saturday at Skyway Park. Through 16 quarters of football, the collective Colts teams only gave up a single touchdown all day.

The Pee Wee squad posted a 26-0 score, the Super Midgets blanked the Raiders 31-0, the Chuck Mcleod’s Midgets shut out the Raiders 26-0, and the Varsity team came back from the day’s only touchdown against the Colts by scoring 12 unanswered points for a final score of 12-6.

Practice Officially Begins!

The 2010 TBYFL season has officially begun with every Colts squad beginning practice today. Our temporary home at the Ed Radice Sports Complex is now the official home of the Westchase Colts. Lots of improvements are in the works now that we are in charge of our own facility.

Parents, please make sure to hydrate your kids well the whole day prior to practice. The amount of body fluids lost during the two-hour practices in the summer heat is huge and merely replenishing it while on the fields isn’t enough. The kids need to be drinking water all day long to keep their bodies hydrated enough to avoid problems.

Practice will continue to be Monday through Friday from 6 PM until 8 PM right up until our first game on August 21.

RaceTrac Receipt Fund Raiser

RaceTrac gas and food market has donated $250 to each TBYFL team and is hosting a contest for the team who can collect the most receipts from RaceTrac between July 26th and our first game, Saturday August 21st. Each receipt counts, however, if you buy their TBYFL Combo Meal which includes a sandwich, chips and a fountain drink, it counts for more credit. Take a few minutes to map your closest RaceTrac and make sure to fill up your gas tank at RaceTrak for the next 4 weeks!

Whichever team wins, there will be a ceremony, with media coverage and presentation of a $1,000 check at Skyway on August 28, 2010. How exciting will it be to win on the day we are working the Skyway Concessions?!

All receipts can be turned into your head coach who will get it to the Board for submission to RaceTrac.

4th Annual Colts Golf Tournament – Aug. 22

The 4th Annual Westchase Colts Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, August 22nd at The Eagles Golf Club.

Registration begins at 7 am, with tee-off at 8 am.

Enjoy a complete program of special events, 18 holes of golf (including cart), lunch, door prizes for each player and an exciting awards banquet, all for just $360 per foursome.
Look forward to our Putting challenge on the practice green, longest drive contests, closest to the pin challenge and Tin Cup Award.

There will be an awards presentation, raffle and lunch directly following golf at the Eagles Clubhouse.

OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR FIELD MAINTENANCE AND UNIFORMS.
We are excited to finally have a ‘Home’ at Ed Radice Sports Complex. As part of our agreement with the county we will have to provide funds to cover field maintenance expenses. The funds raised from this golf tournament will go directly toward our field maintenance costs and new uniforms.

This year’s tournament is being presented by Charles Schwab.

Interested in having fun? Enjoy competition? Like making new friends? Then you need to become a WESTCHASE COLTS CHEERLEADER!

The Westchase Colts are looking for varsity cheerleaders between 13 and 15 years old (as of December 31,2010). We practice at the Ed Radice soccer fields off of South Mobley. The season runs from July through December. This is a great way to learn the fundamentals of cheerleading or to brush up on the skills you already have before trying out for your high school team.

2010 Schedule Now Online

The TBYFL updated their website with the official 2010 tackle football schedule a few days ago, and that information has now been added to the Colts website. It’s doubtful our parents will be happy to see two games in Lutz and two games in Progress Village (including the last game of the season), but the additional travel was expected with the four additional teams that were added to the league recently. The Colts will only play four games at Skyway Park this coming season, down from eight in 2009.

Colts Join Mourning of Bills Player

The Westchase Colts join the TBYFL organization and the Citrus Park Bills in mourning the loss of Bills midget football player Mitchell Bowers, 12, who was struck by a vehicle and killed while riding his bike on Van Dyke Road on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010. Bowers was a seventh-grader at Martinez Middle School and wore number 90 for the Bills.

According to Hillsborough County deputies, Mitchell was riding west in the bicycle lane of Van Dyke approaching Currie Ford Drive when he was struck about 6:45 p.m. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Funeral arrangements are pending.

2010 Registration

Registration for the 2010 season will be held on Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the ReMax office located at 10311 Radcliffe Drive, Tampa, FL, 33626. Parents should bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate along with payment. Flag & Mighty Mites are $200 and all other squads are $275. Checks should be made out to Westchase Colts.

Varsity Colts Reign Supreme at Raymond James Stadium

After our Midget and Varsity squads both took home their TBYFL Super Bowl trophies, each punched a ticket to play at Raymond James Stadium as part of the Day of Champions. The Midget squad took their only loss of the season to a team from the Riverview area whose size and age both put our boys at a mismatch.

Our Varsity team took the field against a future TBYFL team – the Lutz Chiefs. (they’ll be joining the TBYFL organization in 2010) Ty’s team outpaced and outplayed the Chiefs in every aspect of the game, securing a 41-6 victory at the Buccaneers stadium.

Congratulations to our Midget and Varsity players and cheerleaders on a tremendous season!
